General Machining Guidelines

1. Higher feed and speed values should be favored for softer materials; lower feed and speed values should be used on harder materials.

2. The above recommendations are for hole depths up to two drill diameters. When hole depth runs 3 - 6 diameters, speeds should be reduced 10% - 35% respectively, and feeds should re reduced 10%-20% respectively.

Cutting Speed (sfm)    Vc = .262 x D1 x rpm
Revolutions / Minute   rpm = 3.82 c Vc / D1
Feed Rate (fpm)   fm = fr x rpm
Feed Rate / Revolution (fpr)    fr = fm / rpm
Symbols Used:

    D1 = Drill diameter, inches
    rpm = Revolutions per minute
    Vc = Cutting speed, feet / minute
    fr = Feed, inches / revolution
    fm = Feed, Incles / minute
